At Mother.Sister.Friend. Doula Services, we're all about inclusivity and celebration of everyone's unique journey! We use inclusive language because we recognize that not all individuals who have babies identify as women, and not all birthing people are adult women. This is a safe space where we show our fellow humans respect. If that’s not your thing, well, it's been real. Buh-bye!

Our Mission

I associate the words “mother”, “sister”, and “friend” with safety, security and support. These are the people who comfort, console and encourage us allowing us to discover our truth, power, and abilities. These roles are crucial and have a profound impact on our journeys and who we become. While I understand that not everyone has experienced this type of support, my mission is clear: to provide a safe space for those seeking compassion, guidance and a genuine hand of support on their paths to and throughout early parenthood.

MSF is more than a business; it’s an extension of myself, a heartfelt endeavor, a haven where you can find connection, personalized care and understanding while being embraced in your uniqueness.

For Traumatized Black Girls Conditioned to Believe That They Aren't Enough...

So, I have been a birth worker for over 5 years but it feels like I’m just getting started. In a nutshell, Imposter Syndrome had been whooping my ass, y’all. It’s taken me a while to grasp that imposter syndrome is something that only exists in my head because it can be such a powerful hindrance. I actively work through it by making a conscious effort to affirm myself when doubt creeps in. Through work with my spiritual advisor (Awo Faleyewa) and therapist (Hey Shania!), I discovered that those crippling negative thoughts that had me “stuck” were never mine to begin with. By processing it all, I was able to pinpoint the source of damn near every negative thought I have ever had about myself. That was monumental in me finding and redefining myself. Bit by bit, I began to release…. Read More

"Their Child, Their Choice."

Their child, their choice” … frequently stated in debates regarding spanking, circumcision, or the cry-it-out method. Less frequently stated about those who may simply be considering the road less traveled to stray away from what has been deemed “normal”. Choice, by definition, means an act of selecting or deciding when faced with two or more possibilities. But where is the “choice” if media and medical professionals heavily influence the decision-making process via fear-mongering and shame? The message has been sent and received that “their child, their choice” is specifically intended for those who follow traditional societal norms and/or medical professional’s advice, even if it’s not…. The Beauty of Birth Plans

I always ask prospective clients if they’ve created their birth plan; and while most of them understand the value, occasionally someone will hit me with, “no, birth is unpredictable so I don’t see the point.” Indeed, birth does not happen in a straight line (especially with the overuse of medical intervention), but that is exactly what makes a birth plan so useful. A birth plan is a tool that….. Read More
